Quality Seed Stock
Our Angus cattle are selected for a few traits that are very important to our program. Namely calving ease with good growth after birth ( curve bending). We don't want to be up all-night checking heifers to see if they are going to have problems having a delivery. The calves must also grow well once they are on the ground. Small at birth and heavy at the sale.
Scrotal circumference which is an indicator of early fertility.
We appreciate moderated framed cattle that flesh easily; therefore, we keep cows with angus average or slightly lower mature height. We appreciate cows that are moderate framed but still carry a lot of weight in depth and thickness.
Docility - if a cow is not calm to work and easy to be around, they do not stay long. A great majority of the cows can be scratched in a large pasture, some will even seek out your attention.
Our elevation is at 5600 ft above sea level and Pulmonary hypertension can be a problem, so we aggressively select for lower pap scores in our cow herd and the bulls we use for AI service.
Ribeye area is important, since a bigger steak from a smaller carcass is preferred and brings higher premiums.
Finally, the end product use is monumental to bring premiums if selling by the pound or on the plate, therefore we use AI bulls and the cleanup bull, must have a marbling value of +1 or better, this ensures that the bulls we sale will produce offspring with at least marbling of +0.5 certified angus beef requirement for excellent angus beef.
Cutting Edge Genetics
EPD's have done much to simplify knowing what you are buying when you buy cattle. You cannot say enough good about the genetic advancements that have taken place with Angus EPD's. You can know more about an animal looking at the EPD's of an animal you have never seen in five minutes, than your grandfather could tell you about his favorite cow. Now there are other traits to consider such as phenotype and disposition that still need to be viewed in person, or by a trusted eye of an experienced friend. Experience superior genetics in a functional and aesthetically pleasing phenotypic package - now that makes sense and cents.
A recent discovery may increase insight into many of the genetic tests it is called Promogen. Promogen is the name of a unique assay that measures three protein biomarkers that are indicative of the tested animal and their offspring's value for seed stock and commercial producers.
The numerical value derived from the Promogen assay directly correlates with fertility, sperm viability, pregnancy rates, milk production, feed efficiency, and the animal's natural immune response. The cool thing is that is can also be tested in people (you may want to check to see what kind of longevity you may have). The three proteins measured are called Defensins. These proteins are biologically active and aid in the prevention of infection in the lungs, the intestines, and reproductive tracts. They are also a crucial indicator of stress resistance or the lack thereof in the animal, a key element in the day-to-day success of your operation.
High scoring females produce more milk, are more disease resistant, are more reproductively efficient, and have greater herd longevity. High scoring males produce daughters that are superior in the commonly measured economic traits that positively impact the bottom line. High Promogen individuals can be expected to be healthier, more productive, and produce longer in your herd.
We have been acquiring High Promogen cows and bulls to our herd from some of the best herds in the USA, from Georgia to California. We expect the cattle to perform better than ever as the future comes into view.

Fertility Focused Breeding
We prioritize fertility in our breeding program. If a cow doesn't have a calf annually she will be looking for a new home.
