About: Silver Creek Angus

Dedicated to raising exceptional registered Angus seed stock with a focus on cutting edge genetics and superior phenotypic traits. We strive to raise angus cattle that are functional, fertile, calm disposition, structurally sound with a moderate frame, with high carcass merit, and easy fleshing abilities in our high desert environment.

Our family has been raising cattle in Taylor, AZ for 5 generations at our current location.

Our father farmed, ranched, and worked construction in early adulthood. In his later years he turned his attention to civic responsibilities, and at that point he sold the cows, to be able to perform responsibilities, without being tied down to day-to-day operations.

When my brother and I returned home to continue the farming and ranching operation we collected a rag tag herd of all makes and models. At sale time in the fall, we sold the calves, my favorites, the Simental red and white spotted calves brought 20 cents a pound less than the black calves, that were in my opinion not as good. Well, that was a wakeup call to both of us being of thrifty dispositions we determined that it took as much to feed a cow that doesn't bring as much money at the sale barn, as one that does bring premium values. We soon determined it would be prudent to raise black cattle, therefore angus would be the breed of choice. We then considered commercial vs registered cattle.

We studied and came to the conclusion that if you go to the sale barn to buy cattle you can see health confirmation, but there are many things that you cannot tell such as birth date, parentage, calve ease, growth, milk, etc. We were sold on the EPD's and innovation of the American Angus Association and their marketing programs. At that point we started looking for our first registered angus cattle. In the spring of 2007, we bought and brought our first bred heifers from Clay Creek Angus in Greybull, WY.

Through the years we have learned some valuable lessons such as, having cattle die from altitude sickness, genetic defects, calving problems, just scratching my head that was a dumb thing I just did, and in contrast to having success winning the Grand Champion Bull at Cattlemen's Weekend in Prescott and the Arizona Angus Invitational Sale in Maran. However, we are continually working to bring perfection (or at least our definition of perfection) to the Silver Creek Angus cow herd, and the bulls we raise.

We look forward to supplying your operation with top notch Angus Genetics.

I'mTom Anderson owner of Anderson Angus LLC in St Johns, AZ. I have worked with Silver Creek Angus for over a decade. In that time we have partnered on cattle, developed range bulls, Artifical Inseminated heifers and cows, and feed efficiency tested bulls and won numerous accolades. All this led to better seed stock for our arid environment. I highly recommend Silver Creek Angus for your best angus investment.
